FREEDOM and PERSONAL LIBERTY are important for a person's growth.
Assumed responsibility for self is the key element in freedom, for without it, there would be chaos.
Freedom from fear is another key element of freedom and liberty, for without it, there is no peace of mind. The mind needs freedom from fear in order to focus on the future, and pursue dreams for that future. It's hard to do that if fear is present in the mind.
Liberties and freedoms for all are protected by laws. Laws, obeyed by all, keep us all safe and secure. But safety and security have a cost. Disobedience to law must be confronted - and people need to stand for what is right, when tyranny makes its presence.
Some think that "right and wrong" are relative concepts. No, they aren't. Throughout history, various governments have struggled with the concept of right and wrong, truth and error, how to adminster law and still let people grow and prosper. History teaches that misery results from the selfishness of leaders who want conquest and power. Selfish leaders never come to peace with their actions because of the emptiness and self centeredness of their goals and ambition. Good leaders encourage and even teach their people to do what is right, allow them freedom to govern their own lives. What is the basis of good government and law? This simple concept, in various forms: "Walk a mile in a man's shoes to know him" and "Do unto others as you would have others do to you." Why is this the basis for self government? Because it demands of us to honestly ask ourselves a question: "Is what is happening to that person what I would want to happen to me?" This basis for government is the most fair.
